[Fever Audio] Excellent Work and Outstanding Sound Quality Feiao M7 Hi-Fi Player Experience Evaluation

[Does it start with a question?]?]

M7 is Feiao's latest Hi-Fi player product, positioned in the thousand-dollar market, and is an entry-level portable Hi-Fi device. For users who want to start with this level of Hi-Fi player, there are generally three core points of difficulty in whether it is worth buying, one is whether the sound quality is excellent, the other is whether the control is satisfactory, and the third is whether the function can be added. If we only talk about these three points, M7 can indeed hand in satisfactory answers, but what if we want more?

[Comments are ahead, saving impatient people's time]]
our favorite places:

does not have Wi-Fi functions and does not open third-party APP support.

exterior design has reference marks and is slightly conservative.

[Unpacking that cannot be skipped]]

M7 is the same as other player products in Feiao. It is white and black with the appearance of the product printed on the front of the body, and the product logo and certification icon (well, a pile of money) printed on the periphery. The product features are clear at a glance. This packaging design style is obviously aimed at the offline market, which is convenient for consumers to see and understand the products on the shelves for the first time, because Feiao has always had quite good sales channels and market share in Europe and the United States.

accessories include instructions, warranty card, certificate of approval, type-C data cable, toughened protective film (pasted) and TPU protective shell. PS: The leather case is individually packaged and sold separately, and there are many colors to choose from.

[How many points do you give in appearance and craftsmanship]]
Hi-Fi player is not like a mobile phone, so is M7. The overall style is irregular and will not be mistaken at all. But I have to say that the overall shape of M7 has the shadow of a Korean brand.

M7 is made of aluminum alloy, CNC cutting, and the surface is anodized and sandblasted. The whole machine technology is quite excellent. If you play with the machine carefully, you can see that the chamfer of the shell is uniform and delicate.

The fit between the M7 button and the body is quite high, there is no obvious gap and empty position, the button has no obvious shaking feeling, and the feeling of pressing is very clear and excellent.

also continues the design of the Feiao family. The red circle is blue/red, and the feel is also excellent.

volume roller should be regarded as the standard of "high-end" Hi-Fi player, and it is also the bright pen of the whole machine. Manufacturers will make great efforts in the design of the roller. The same is true for M7. It is made of metal CNC with twill grooves on the surface, which can increase friction and is decorated with Phnom Penh, which is quite beautiful. There is another detail worth noting. The rotation of the M7 roller has a sense of scale and can emit drops of sound. The volume can be changed one by one. The rotation of the roller can be felt from two aspects of hearing and touch. It is very suitable for blind operation. During rotation, the damping size is moderate and the paragraphs are clear. The only fly in the ointment is that the runner design is a little small, and the M7 is not so "frank" when it is put on the leather case.

I used a lot of writing style on appearance and technology, which is not quite like my usual writing style. Please forgive me. This is nothing more than being moved by Feiao's water manufacturing technology. The touch of the keys exploded my Samsung S8 and Note8, which are infinitely close to iPhone X. Of course, the wheel of M7 also feels very good. This is exactly what I admire, see the "true craftsman spirit" of success or failure in detail ". PS: It would be better to give more strength in design.

[Stone of Other Mountains, "Core" from Samsung] "]
Hi-Fi player, as a digital product with single function, is very embarrassing in the selection of main control chip (SoC), which is basically equivalent to no "good core" available. Because the market volume is small, there is no large chip chamber to produce special master control, and the cost of using mobile phone master control is high, the performance overflow is serious, and the power consumption will be very large. Although small chipmakers will customize production, they do not have good production process and process support, and they are not satisfactory in performance and power consumption (Junzheng's X1000 Soc is still using 65nm LP process).

Feiao chose Samsung Exynos7270 master for M7 this time, which can be said to be a "magic pen". This master adopts dual-core ARM Cortex-A53 architecture, 14nm process and Sip-ePoP stacking packaging process. It is the best choice for small intelligent devices in terms of performance, power consumption and volume, and also gives M7 a very good foundation in interaction and control.

in fact, Samsung's Exynos7270 is designed for smart watches. It does not pursue strong performance, but to balance performance and power consumption, which coincides with the needs of Hi-Fi players. However, the key point is not Samsung's Exynos7270 procurement, but whether the manufacturer has the ability to do development (there is usually a solution provider between the chip manufacturer and the manufacturer). Feiao needs financial resources and time to complete the design and matching of the whole software and hardware system without too much technical support. For this point, please refer to Meizu mobile phone, which is also controlled by Samsung, the R & D and update cycle is much slower and troublesome than using MTK master control.

of course, since Feiao has taken care of Samsung Exynos7270, the "stone of other mountains", it is easier to apply it to other players. It may be possible to use it for a few years. After all, Hi-Fi players are really insensitive to the master control and do not need to have an annual war like mobile phones.

[DAC and others]]
DAC chip is actually the core of Hi-Fi player and the topic of portable Hi-Fi player. Feiao M7 uses an ESS 9018Q2C chip, which integrates D/A conversion and earring functions. It is a 32-bit dual-channel DAC for mobile and small Hi-Fi devices and belongs to a new product in the 9018 family.

this 9018Q2C integrates the earphone function and does not need to add additional earphone chips, it has good performance in volume and power consumption and is more suitable for player products with small size. However, this DAC has not compromised in power supply. The digital, analog and earphone parts are all independently powered and can be externally connected with LPF (low pass filter), which is convenient for engineers to tune, and the performance parameters are also very beautiful, signal-to-noise ratio ≥ 117dB(A weighted), and bottom noise control is also excellent.

Hi-Fi player is used as a device to specially process a single function, and some chips should also be mentioned. M7 clock uses an FPGA chip (programmable gate array) to complete the dual crystal oscillator function, so that it can complete the hard solution of PCM and DSD formats.

M7 also adds a special FM chip of Si4705, which can output digital signals to 9018Q2C for processing, using the same special audio processing circuit as music playback, so FM effect is also very outstanding.

M7 Bluetooth is also Samsung's chip, version 4.2, supports aptX-HD and LDAC, especially LDAC. Feiao should be the second professional player manufacturer besides Sony.

[Simplified Android System and Very "Mobile Phone" Interactive Interface]]
is a smart watch chip, it is normal for M7 to use Android system. However, because RAM(768MB) and ROM(4GB) are fixed on SoC chip, Feiao greatly streamlined the system and canceled the support of third-party APP, leaving only some basic functions and options, but the control is really smooth.

M7 is still very close to that of mobile phones, with zero learning cost, but it is closer to iOS than Android, because the return button is in the upper left corner, which also cancels Android's "three king kong keys". Feiao also added two gesture operations, from the lower left corner of the screen is to return, and the lower right corner is to return to the main interface, the experience is not bad.

[Functions: Yes, Good, More]]

M7 is music playing. There is no need to talk too much about this. The main reason is that Feiao uses Android system, so music playing is based on APP, with two advantages: first, complete functions and second, convenient improvement.

radio is one of the major selling points of M7. It can automatically search and save radio stations, but like mobile phones, it needs to be connected with headphones as an antenna to use.

file manager and gallery is basically the same as that on Android phones, but it cannot open formats other than audio files (personally tested video and TXT documents)

technical support function is also quite good, including firmware upgrade, FAQ and Quick Start (manual) functions.

Bluetooth is a major feature of M7. Supporting aptX-HD and LDAC is a bonus item, especially LDAC, which can meet the sound quality requirements of Hi-Res Audio and is worthy of praise.

In addition to PO and LO outputs, M7 also supports USB-Audio digital outputs. It can output native DSD and PCM with various sampling rates. It acts as a digital turntable and is used to connect decoding earphones, such as Feiao Q5 and Feiao Q1MK2 decoding earphones.

Feiao M7 has done a good job in several basic functions. Even if you find fault, you can't find too much fault. The only pity for me is the problem of pricing and positioning (the gap with X5 III). Feiao has not opened the support of third-party APP, and has also canceled the Wi-Fi (there is no DLNA function), which makes it a little less playable.

[good quality sound bottom, and but not lost style]]
Feiao has done a very good job of Hi-Fi the basic sound quality requirements of the player on M7, and has basically exerted its full strength of 9018Q2C.

M7 has a very low signal-to-noise ratio, which can not be detected with low resistance and high sensitivity earplugs such as T8iE Mk II. The background is very dark, which is far better than other machines of the same price.

sound field is open and regular, with obvious layering, clear positioning of musical instruments and human voices, and good separation between left and right, but it is worse than X3 Mark III with balanced mouth.

information provision, M7 is somewhat limited by thrust, the resolution of the low-frequency part is slightly worse, and the sense of hierarchy in "Drum Poetry" is slightly worse, but the medium and high-frequency resolution is really good, and the overall horizontal horizontal comparison with the same price machine still has obvious advantages.

thrust, I personally think it is acceptable to meet the needs of portable large earphones and small low-resistance earplugs.

M7 should be the Zhongzheng line. There is no obvious bias. It can adapt to most styles. It is a versatile front end. Personally, I tried to match EXK, RE800 and T8iE Mk II with M7, which can basically play out the characteristics of these moving circle masterpieces.

M7 does not rely on style to grasp the ears, but with high-quality headphones (personally recommended with Feiao's own entry-level headphones FH1), people can feel the charm of high-definition music in their first ears and show the beauty of music details. (A good Hi-Fi player will not play with the tuning style, which is exactly what mobile phone manufacturers who blindly promote sound effects should learn.)

well... for front-ends such as Hi-Fi players and mobile phones, the key to Bluetooth sound quality performance is the earphone end! Bluetooth headset needs to decompress coding (SBC, aptX-HD or LDAC) and then D/A digital-to-analog conversion and amplification again. It can be regarded as a built-in function of some players. Therefore, the key to sound quality is Bluetooth headset. For the front end, more attention is paid to the support of coding format and signal stability, especially in LDAC high code rate mode. The signal stability of M7 is not too big a problem. I have tested it on the subway. There is no disconnection, sonic explosion and other phenomena. The delay is also within the normal range. M7 is definitely worth matching with a good Bluetooth headset supporting LDAC. For example, I use Sony's LDAC Bluetooth line with RE800!

[conclusion, already said!]
